It is more than likely that if you have visited the Valley Urological Associates Sewickley office, you may have been offered the opportunity to be seen by one of the Valley Urological Associates physician extenders: Richard D. Burns, PA-C; or Bonnie A. Wasson, CRNP. Both Richard and Bonnie have been welcome additions to the Valley Urological practice, and it is important to make sure that each patient understands the role that these two highly- experienced professionals play as part of the Valley Urological patient care team. Richard Burns is a certified physician assistant, who has been on staff at Valley Urological Associates since 2007. Mr. Burns attended Duquesne University, graduating summa cum laude in 1996. With more than 11 years experience in the field of urology, Mr. Burns sought out certification as a physician assistant because he enjoys working with patients and was interested in expanding his patient care role beyond that typically performed by a registered nurse, or licensed practical nurse.

"Urology is a fascinating field of medicine," said Mr. Burns, "and I wanted to take my interest in medicine and the enjoyment I experience from working closely with patients to another level. I knew that training as a physician assistant would help me accomplish my goal, helping me to fulfill an important role in the doctor's office. Clearly I am not replacing the role of the doctor, but my expertise is a complement to the team approach at Valley Urological, which helps us meet our goal of providing outstanding patient care."
